BAPTISMAL PREPARATION

Parents and god-parents whose children are to be baptized must attend a Baptismal class to reflect on the responsibilities they undertake when baptizing their children.

Baptism Guidelines

Welcome to St. Hugh Catholic Church. We rejoice on the gift of new life you have received from God. We welcome you as a family to the family of families that is
St. Hugh Catholic Community.

  1. Baptism is a Sacrament of Initiation and should be celebrated in the parish where the adult person or the parents of the child live. Only registered parishioners of St. Hugh will be baptized here.

  2. Baptism is a communal celebration. The child is being joined to our parish community, the Body of Christ. Our community pledge to assist you child along his/her journey of Christian Faith.

  3. Baptisms are celebrated in English, the first Sunday of each month, at 1:30 PM and in Spanish the second Sunday of every month at the same time.

  4. To register a baby for Baptism, the following documents are required:
    • Proof that parents are registered parishioners who assist regularly to Sunday liturgy;
    • Birth certificate of the child;
    • Sponsor certificates for Godparents stating they are practicing Catholics – Godparents must be adults at least 18 years of age and at least one of them has to be fully initiated into the church(i.e. Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) and practice their faith;
    • Love donation when reserving date.
    • If one parent belongs to another religion or will be absent at the baptism, a notarized letter giving St. Hugh the authority to baptize the child is required.

  5. Parents and Godparents must attend catechesis on the Sacrament of Baptism.
